Questions

Frequently asked questions.

What is a McKenzie Friend?

A McKenzie Friend is a person who can provide practical and moral support to a litigant in person. The precise assistance permitted is ultimately a matter for the court.

Are you solicitors?

No. Your Court Companion is an independent practical support service and does not hold itself out as a solicitor, barrister or regulated legal representative.

Can you help with a witness or position statement?

We can support you with organising information, improving structure and helping you prepare your own document. The document remains yours and you remain responsible for its accuracy and content.

Can you speak for me in court?

A McKenzie Friend does not automatically have rights of audience. Whether any additional participation is permitted is a decision for the court.

Do you work with both men and women?

Yes. Your Court Companion supports litigants in person regardless of gender.

How do I get started?
